 North Strabane Township is located in northern Washington County, approximately 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.  The Township is home to approximately 12,000 residents and is 27 square miles in area.  The predominance of development in the Township is residential in nature with nearly 50% of all land use classified as agricultural in character.

North Strabane Township is part of the Canon-McMillan School District with an enrollment of 4,323 students.  Residents are provided with a variety of municipal services inclusive of police, fire, public works, planning, code enforcement, library and recreation.  Township taxes are low and have not increased in ten years. The majority of the community’s population lives within close proximity to major transportation corridors (I-79, I-70, Route 19) that provide convenient access to the Pittsburgh metropolitan area in 20 minutes. Public Hearing Notice - PA Department of Agriculture Subject:  Southern Beltway Project: I-79 to Mon/Fayette Expressway Transportation Project.

Pursuant to Agricultural Area Security Law (Act of June 30, 1981, P.L. 128, No. 43) as amended, the Agricultural Lands Condemnation Approval Board (ALCAB) of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will conduct a public hearing on:

DATE:                August 6, 2008
TIME:                  10:00 am
LOCATION:        North Strabane Township
                           1929 Route 519 South
                           Canonsburg, PA 15317

The purpose of the hearing will be to hear and take testimony and possibly render a decision on a request from the PA Turnpike Commission for the conversion of agricultural lands impacted by the I-79 to Mon/Fayette Expressway transportation project.

In addition to the Agricultural Lands Condemnation Approval Board, (ALCAB), each of the following bodies is entitled to participate in the ALCAB hearing:

A.   The Agricultural Security Area Advisory Committee(s) in townships ASA lands will be impacted

B.   The Township(s) in which ASA land will be impacted

C.   The County governing body (Washington County)

Further, additional entities are entitled to and will be presenting testimony at this hearing. Interested parties and their legal counsel are encouraged to attend this hearing.

You are not required to be represented by legal counsel in order to present information and/or testimony.  However, if you intend to present information or testify at this hearing without the advice of counsel, you must make your intentions known to either the hearing officer or me PRIOR to the start of the formal hearing.
